GGPoker Reschedules GGMasters 5th Anniversary After Technical Issues

What was set to be one of the biggest online poker tournaments of the year, the GGMasters 5th Anniversary event, came to a sudden halt due to technical issues. The $150 buy-in freezeout with a $5 million guarantee had already gathered over 20,000 entrants before the unexpected crash forced GGPoker to pause and reschedule the event. Now, the highly anticipated tournament will resume on Sunday, March 2, at 17:00 UTC.

Technical Issues Disrupt Play, Tournament Put ‘On Standby’

The GGMasters 5th Anniversary event launched with massive participation, drawing in 21,992 players before disaster struck. Reports of connection issues flooded social media, with players unable to log in or experiencing crashes mid-game.

GGPoker, the largest online poker platform, paused all tournaments on Sunday night in an attempt to stabilize the client. After assessing the situation, the site ultimately decided to cancel and refund all other tournaments while putting the GGMasters event on standby.

Despite the disruption, the guarantee is still likely to be met when the tournament resumes, as the late registration period was far from over and additional satellites are running.

GGPoker Responds: Funds Are Safe, New Date Set

As panic spread among players, GGPoker quickly reassured its community that all funds were safe. The site took to X (formerly Twitter) to address concerns, stating:

"We are pausing all tournaments to stabilize gameplay. Apologies for the sudden inconvenience."

Many users questioned whether their buy-ins were secure, to which GGPoker responded:

"Yes, all funds are safe."

Shortly after, GGPoker officially confirmed the new date:

"GGMasters Anniversary has been paused and will resume on March 2. All other tournaments have been canceled and will be refunded as per our cancellation policy."

What This Means for Players

While the crash was frustrating, the reschedule could actually benefit players. The field size may increase, as additional satellites leading up to March 2 will allow more players to enter. With a $5 million guarantee still in place, the prize pool could grow even larger.

For those already in the tournament, their stacks and positions will be saved when play resumes.

GGPoker’s Growing Influence in Online Poker

Despite this setback, GGPoker remains the industry leader in online poker traffic. The site has hosted some of the biggest online events in history and continues to expand its presence globally.

Additionally, GGPoker's parent company, NSUS Group, recently acquired the World Series of Poker (WSOP) for $500 million, solidifying its dominance in both online and live poker markets.

While technical failures are never ideal, GGPoker’s quick response and player-first approach ensure that the GGMasters 5th Anniversary event will still be one of the most exciting tournaments of the year.
