After online poker games and other gambling and casino games have disappeared from the Swiss market 18 months ago, a blackout with PokerStars being the last to leave in July 2019, the country finally has some good news regarding the poker industry. Earlier this week (Nov 23), an iPoker skin quietly went online and is currently operating with a regularly issued license in the Swiss market.

“It’s very exciting for us to re-enter the Swiss poker market with our strong partner, Swisscasinos.ch", stated Joerg Nottebaum, iPoker Network Manager, also adding that “We are proud to be the first in the regulated Swiss market and are looking forward to the Swiss poker community joining iPoker.com!”.

Partypoker and Pokerstars and the Swiss Market

The doors are now open to other operators to join the market. Partypoker/bwin, by GVC Holdins, soon to be renamed Entain plc, was once in negotiations that ultimately failed and the company has a new strategy of focusing on regulated markets and avoid unregulated ones (we covered this in our recent news article, that you can click here to read the full version). Now that there are official licenses been issued, however, the operator might soon be making its comeback to Swiss. The current global leader PokerStars might also be looking at this opportunity with close attention it has also withdrawn from the Asia and could be looking for an increase in revenues elsewhere, in more stable markets.
