Phil Galfond & Run It Once prepare to enter the US market

Run It Once Poker sold to Rush Street Interactive and plans US Launch

A few days ago, we covered that the online poker room founded by Phil Galfond, Run It Once Poker, was shut down definitely (if you haven't done so already, withdraw your money before April 3rd). On that occasion, Phil Galfond declared on his blog post aptly named "Running It Again":

“I'm holding back some of the finer details for the time being (I'll have more to share in the next few months!), but the bottom line is this: Run It Once Poker is now headed down a path to enter the legal & regulated US market”, also adding that “this has been a dream of mine since well before we first launched. I didn’t initially think it would be an option for us for another half-decade, so I’m very excited to be on our way to achieving it!”.

It seems he finally might have found a path: via acquisition by Rush Street Interactive.

Run It Once was sold for 5,8 million USD to RSI, a company based in Chicago, that has plans to launch it as a new legal in the US online poker site. The purchase includes the Run It Once platform, praised for being made "by the players, for the players", and the Run It One team, including Phil Galfond himself.

About the acquisition, he declared:

“Well, now we are bigger - much bigger. And now we add to our existing tech team the expertise and experience of those who have built huge poker platforms in the past. I’m extremely excited about what we’ll be able to accomplish together!”

And when and where can expect a US launch? At the moment, there are no such certainties.

“Before you ask: No, I don’t yet have a launch date or place(s) to share with you” tweeted Galfond – there is a good chance that Pennsylvania will be the market of choice.

RSI’s BetRivers brand already has a large presence in the Pennsylvania market, both online and “live”, with BorgataCasino.com currently running on their state online poker license".
