The problem of bots in online poker

This week, 888poker announced that they closed 85 accounts that were detected using bots. Not only that but about 100,000 USD were confiscated from these accounts and returned to over 4000 players who, in the month of October 2021, lost money playing against these accounts. In the words of Amit Berkovich, Head of 888poker:

This is the first time 888 poker disclosed information about their measures taken against bots and more and more online poker rooms and operators have been doing so in the past years. Although transparency is a good thing, sharing too much information risks enabling programmers of bots, AIs, and RTA tools to become better at avoiding detection.
