GGPoker introduces Spin & Gold ELO ranking system

Spin&Gold now has an ELO ranking system thanks to GGPoker

The different players in competitive games like poker or chess are typically ranked according to their performance. In poker, a player's bankroll typically has a significant impact on their rating, as it is generally believed that the best competitive players are those who are able to reach the highest stakes.

The new GGPoker Spin & Gold ELO ranking system, however, only takes into account a player's ability and win rate. Therefore, even low-stakes players might reach the highest places.

There are seven tier ELO levels:

E: 1200 Rating (new players)
D: 1500 Rating
C: 2000 Rating
B: 3000 Rating
A: 4000 Rating
Master: 5000 Rating
Grand Master: TOP 100 ranking

The World Chess Federation created the ELO rating system in 1970, and it is a well-liked ranking system for zero-sum games that is frequently utilized in professional competitive play. It hasn't been used in poker up to now.

The ranking is automatically determined depending on the outcomes of your games. The opponent's rating may be seen by clicking on his or her moniker in the Spin & Gold Lobby > ELO Rating page, and a new section with all the Spin & Gold ELO data has been added under the Smart HUD data.

All Spin&Go tables—aside from VIP games—count toward the ELO ranking. Currently, the rating serves just to encourage rivalry among the greatest players and to educate players about their rivals, but in the future, it may be an effective tool for leveling the playing field.

Player reception

On Reddit, players have mixed opinions about the introduction of this new system. One particularly interesting argument by the user "UsuallyJustMyName" says:

"Poker already has a built-in matchmaking system that will pit people against others in a particular skill bracket. It's stakes. If you're good enough to be more profitable at a higher stake, you move up. Am I wrong?"
