GGPoker Launches Ocean Rewards

GGPoker is officially overhauling its loyalty ecosystem. On January 30, the world’s largest online poker room will retire its long-running Fish Buffet program and replace it with Ocean Rewards, a redesigned system promising higher rakeback, longer-term status security, and a clearer path toward elite rewards.

According to GGPoker, Ocean Rewards represents the “next evolution” of player loyalty. The core idea is simple: reward long-term play more generously, remove the constant pressure of monthly level chasing, and offer meaningful cashback that scales all the way up to elite grinders.

For many players, the headline is impossible to ignore. Ocean Rewards introduces rakeback rates as high as 80 percent, significantly higher than the approximate 60 percent cap under Fish Buffet.

How Ocean Rewards Works

Ocean Rewards is built around a new points system called Tide Points. Players earn 100 Tide Points for every dollar of rake they contribute in real-money games, although the effective rate may vary depending on a player’s profile.

As Tide Points accumulate, players progress through a series of ocean-themed tiers. The entry level, Fish, begins immediately and offers roughly 24 percent rakeback. From there, players advance through Shrimp, Crab, Turtle, Octopus, Dolphin, and Whale, each tier offering a higher average cashback rate. At the very top sits Shark, unlocked at 10 million Tide Points and delivering an estimated 80 percent rakeback.

Even for high-volume players, the improvement is noticeable. The tier most comparable to the old GGPlatinum level is Whale, which is expected to return around 72 percent rakeback, comfortably exceeding what Fish Buffet previously offered.

A Shift Toward Long-Term Stability

One of the most important structural changes is how long players keep their status. Under Fish Buffet, loyalty levels came with expiration timers ranging from a single week to a year, forcing players to maintain constant volume just to avoid being downgraded.

Ocean Rewards removes that pressure. Once a player reaches a tier, that status is locked in through the end of the following calendar year. Players can still move up during that time, but they no longer risk losing their level every month due to inactivity or reduced volume.

This change alone makes Ocean Rewards far more appealing to recreational players, part-time grinders, and anyone whose poker schedule fluctuates throughout the year.

The Role of Gems in Ocean Rewards

Alongside Tide Points, Ocean Rewards introduces a second in-game currency known as Gems. While Tide Points determine a player’s tier and base rakeback, Gems function as an additional rewards layer.

GGPoker has confirmed that Gems are earned in parallel with Tide Points and can be exchanged for rewards inside the client. Their value increases at higher levels, creating extra upside for players who progress deeper into the system.

However, Gems are not direct cashback and do not affect tier progression. Their exact exchange rates and reward catalog have not yet been fully revealed, suggesting more details will follow closer to launch or shortly after Ocean Rewards goes live.
