The announcement of the WSOP Main Event in December has elicited a lot of reactions through the poker community, not all of them positive. Some have criticized the hybrid online and live format, doubting the live games will actually take place. Other find it confusing that we have yet another WSOP champion in the same year. With a second wave of coronavirus coming with the winter in the Northern hemisphere, it was expected by most people that the online WSOP Series that was held by GGPoker during summer was going to be the end of it for 2020. Surprise came, however, when WSOP Main Event Final Tables was announced for this December (which was already covered in detail in our recent new article that you can read the full version here). For some, this was much appreciated, as poker player and fans have another event this year to look forward to and another shot to be the champion. Others, however, had their own share of critics to the event.

Among those, the winner of WSOP online that took place during the summer, pro player Stoyan Madanzhiev, asked: "So if I won the '51st Annual World Series of Poker Main Event' What will the December one be? The 52nd, 51.1, 51 2.0, 51 alfa? Just wondering." to which Negreanu replied that this event in December will be played in the traditional form for the WSOP Main Event, a $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout tournament, differently from the online version that has already happened that had a $ 5 000 buy-in and allowed multiple re-entries, with over 400 Day 1. Madanzhiev took it with humor and said: “I would nominate WSOP for the best bluff of the year – for bluffing the whole world successfully that we were playing the 51st WSOP in the summer.”.
